The UCC's StillSpeaking Magazine has won yet another award in a string of accolades given for its first two issues published in 2010. The Rev. Rebecca Bowman-Woods won the Ohio chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists second place prize for her article "Pastors in Crisis: When Congregations Become Caregivers," in the religious writing category. The award was given at an Oct. 22 ceremony held in Cleveland.

The article appeared in the Spring 2010 issue of StillSpeaking Magazine with photos and editing from the Rev. Gregg Brekke and layout by Deborah Smith of Area C, the design division of The Shamrock Companies, in Westlake, Ohio.

StillSpeaking Magazine won top prize for best denominational publication, in addition to category awards for writing, photography and thematic representation, at the interfaith Religion Communicators Council in March. The magazine also won four additional awards for journalistic excellence at the Associated Church Press gathering in April.

"I couldn't be more pleased with the critical reception StillSpeaking Magazine has received," said Brekke, the UCC's news director and editor of StillSpeaking Magazine. "It was wonderful to receive honors from our peers in religious journalism, but for Rebecca and our publication to be recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists is a testament to how relevant the magazine is - even beyond the walls of the church."

Brekke noted that the Fall 2011 edition of StillSpeaking Magazine is scheduled to begin shipping Nov. 1. The upcoming issue's theme is community and focuses on the church's work of building community and extending the notions of who belongs within the church community.
