Each year OGHS hosts an educational mission trip to help interested members of our local churches see first-hand how OGHS makes a difference in the world.
This trip will immerse participants in the continuum of involvement of the United Church of Christ in migration between Central America and USA, particularly as it involves children and families. That continuum includes:
(a) work on root causes of violence and poverty that make immigration/migration necessary (Global Ministries partners and FRB/CWS Central America food sustainability projects) as well as care upon deportation (Borderlinks and CWS);
(b) direct service for people who cross the southern USA border (water in desert & monitoring treatment in detention centers & legal aid for access to U.S. justice system);
(c) shaping Immigration policies in the USA toward hospitality, welcoming, including new Sanctuary movement and churches and through individual cases of sanctuary.
This immersion includes physical presence, personal friendship building, and strengthened systemic commitment for on-going involvement of the UCC in migration/immigration/refugee realities through sustainable development and ministries related to forcible displacement.
Come join the experience and the conversation.
