Science Sermon Writing Contest
A New Voice Arising... Faith Engaging Science and Technology
In celebration of the pastoral letter on science and faith, A New Voice Arising, the United Church of Christ invited UCC sermon entries earlier this year on the gifts of a faith that engages science.
UCC pastors, licensed ministers, lay leaders, scientists, and seminarians were invited to send sermon entries on faith, science, and technology. Two $500 prizes were awarded, one to a seminarian. Attending and presenting to the LinK conference on Science and Faith were made possible for the honorable mention winners.
These winning sermons are:
Thinking About It – Rev. Jennifer Garrison Brownell, Portland, OR
An Evolving Faith – Jim Schall, M.Div. Candidate, University of Chicago
More Than We Know – Rev. Elizabeth Colton, Catonsville, MD [Honorable Mention and LINK preacher]
From Evolution to Adaptation – Rev. Dr. Ledyard (Led) Baxter, Aquebogue, NY [Honorable Mention and LINK preacher]
"We can open ourselves and our theology to the momentous conceptual changes of our times, finding in them new occasions, new duties, and new language of praise. The transformations of today’s scientific vision enrich our faith, and our church honors our members who answer God’s calling with careers in medicine, science, and engineering."
The Rev. John H. Thomas, General Minister and President, United Church of Christ, with the United Church of Christ Science and Technology Network
