Presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama have both pledged "unstinting resolve" to promote peace and security for Darfur and all Sudan. The United Church of Christ is working with other organizations to collect one million names urging the candidates to follow through on this promise and make Sudan a top priority.

Sign the petition now urging our next president to keep his pledge—and take decisive action on Darfur including:

• Urge the international community to protect civilians from violence, starvation and disease
• Increase diplomatic support for peace talks in Darfur
• Encourage better oversight of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and ensure that both sides of the conflict are complying
• Increase U.S. funding for reconstruction so that the displaced people of Sudan can return to their homes and communities
• Support the deployment of African Union and United Nations peacekeepers in Darfur
