The United Church of Christ General Minister and President plans to connect with members of the wider church weekly, in a pretty accessible way. That's the impetus behind "Into the Mystic" – a podcast from the Rev. John C. Dorhauer that will be available every Monday on UCC.org.
"I want the art and practice of spiritual reflection to be modeled as a priority and not just a part time avocation," said Dorhauer. "I want to be seen as both General MINISTER and President. Most of what I do reminds people I am the latter. This will help them see the role as more dimensional."
With the weekly podcast, which will be easily accessible on the homepage of UCC.org on Monday and linked from KYP on Tuesday afternoons, Dorhauer hopes to reach listeners where they are, with topics that are timely and thought-provoking.
As for the title, 'Into the Mystic,' Dorhauer says it was carefully chosen, with a two-fold meaning. "One, as fulfillment of my role as general minister, I want to invite us all to a renewed sense of awe and wonder at what God’s hands have wrought. I want to call us all back into the mystic. Two, I have always been a closet ascetic, and the spirituality of mysticism feeds me. This is my way of getting into my inner mystic."
