A delegation from Global Ministries partners, the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), will visit Haiti March 26-28.
The Rev. Geoffrey A. Black, UCC general minister and president, the Rev. Sharon Watkins, DoC general minister and president, along with the co-executive directors of Global Ministries, the Rev. Cally Rogers-Witte from the UCC and the Rev. David Vargas from the DoC, will accompany the Rev. Felix Ortiz, Global Ministires' area executive for Latin America and the Caribbean on the trip.
In addition to surveying damaged areas in and around Port-au-Prince, assessing the progress of recovery and visiting Global Ministries' partners, the leaders will participate in the first all-church memorial service for persons from partner churches belonging to CONASPEH (the National Spiritual Council of Churches of Haiti) who died in the earthquake.
"We will have a very brief but intense pastoral visit," said Rogers-Witte in an email urging continued prayers for the people of Haiti. "Brief, because we do not want to be a burden on our partners in their time of need. Intense...," as a result of the pastoral nature of the visit and participation in the memorial service.
Global Ministries continues to provide financial support to Haiti via partnerships with Church World Service and ACT International. An information page, including links to donation opportunities, is at <ucc.org/haiti>.
