Hosted by the pastoral staff of the United Congregational UCC in Holyoke,
Mass., a three-day ecumenical study for clergy, laity and students will be held
at the church April 26-29.
Keynote speaker for the inaugural event – titled awakenings – will be
Marcus Borg. Two-dozen other presenters and workshop leaders will bring music,
storytelling, spiritual practice and intellectual challenge for living faithfully
in today’s world.
Borg, a Canon theologian at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland, Ore.,
is internationally recognized in both academic and church circles as a biblical
and Jesus scholar. The author of more than 20 books, Borg was Hundere Chair of
Religion and Culture at Oregon State University until his retirement in 2007.
The mission of awakenings is to bring together leading-edge thinkers,
musicians, artists and religious professionals to promote individual and
collective listening, learning, exploring, sharing and responding.
