Registration
for this summer’s special National Gathering of the UCC Coalition for LGBT
Concerns, celebrating its 40th anniversary, begins March 12.
The
National Gathering 2012 will be held at UCC-related Elmhurst (Ill.) College
June 25-28, honoring several pioneers of early Coalition and LGBT-organizing history.
Among them will be UCC minister the Rev. William R. Johnson, who in 1972 was
the first openly gay person ordained into Christian ministry by a mainline
Protestant denomination.
The celebration of 40
years of LGBT ministry in the UCC also will include a warm welcome to Pillar of
Love Fellowship UCC in Chicago, the UCC’s 1,000th Open and Affirming (ONA)
congregation.
Inspiring
worship, powerful preaching and joyful music are planned for the National
Gathering, along with workshops designed to feed the mind and nurture the soul.
