Seven years ago, Bishop Carlton D. Pearson was a fourth-generation evangelical preacher and one of Oral Roberts' anointed; he had graduated from Oral Roberts University and served on its board of regents. He prayed with U.S. presidents, preached to 5,000 people in his home church in Tulsa, Okla., and to thousands more on television.

After an anti-gay slur was painted on the sign outside Campbell UCC near San Jose, Calif., on Aug. 18, a member of the Campbell City Council is asking city residents to show support for the congregation by offering donations for the purchase of a new church sign.
Malayang honored for nearly five decades of service to church June 25, 2007
The General Synod honored the Rev. José “Joe” A. Malayang, retiring executive minister for Local Church Ministries. Malayang has served in the post since it was created by General Synod in 1999. “We thank God for Joe’s service and his life and ministry,” said Richard L. Fluechtling, chair of LCM's board of directors.
