Embracing the power of literacy at Franklinton Center summer retreat July 20, 2012
Fifty children and their families in North Carolina are learning about the power of literacy, thanks to a collaborative project hosted by the UCC's Franklinton Center at Bricks (FCAB).
The conference, retreat and education center in Eastern North Carolina hosted students, parents and staff of the Inborden Elementary School this week, as part of FCAB's first Summer Literacy retreat.
Gospel concert part of faith-based advocacy around AIDS 2012 conference July 19, 2012
A UCC minister will host a free gospel concert to conclude the first day of the worldwide AIDS 2012 conference in Washington, D.C., next week. “One Voice: Gospel Artists Respond to AIDS,” hosted by Bishop Yvette A. Flunder, takes place July 23 at the Mt. Vernon Place United Methodist Church , as a celebration of hope in the collective struggle against AIDS.

The Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr. will deliver the 30th Annual Everett C. Parker Ethics in Telecommunications Lecture Sept. 25 in Washington D.C. The Parker Lecture is held each year by the United Church of Christ’s Office of Communication, Inc. (OC, Inc.) to inspire the media and public interest advocates and honor those individuals making a difference in ethical broadcasting. This year’s event will also celebrate the centennial of Rev. Everett Parker’s birth, as well as his pioneering work as an advocate for the public’s rights in broadcasting. The lecture and breakfast will take place in the new facilities of First Congregational United Church of Christ.

Ann Hanson commanded a lot of attention at the UCC's National Youth Event. After all, she was hosting discussions about sex. Her sessions at Purdue University were standing room only, attended by more than 200 people in two days.
