The UCC's mobilization to attract 100,000 supporters for its health care reform petition has signed on its 10,000th signature.

At 11:45 a.m. (ET) on Friday, the tally moved past the 10 percent mark, before adding nearly 200 more signatures within the hour. Since its launch on Tuesday, Sept. 8, the 100,000 for Health Care campaign has been attracting about 3,000 new signatures daily.

Church leaders set the bar high, in hopes of reaching a 100,000 goal by Friday, Sept. 18, when the Rev. Geoffrey A. Black, general minister and president-elect, will present a collective set of the names to the in-district offices of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, while Black is visiting churches in the San Francisco area.

On Thursday, Black sent a message to about 7,500 persons who had signed the petition at that point, asking them to download a flyer and personally distibute copies at church services on Sunday.

"The only way we are going to reach our 100,000 goal is if we really reach into our congregations and mobilize our concerned friends and family members to join us," Black wrote.
