General Synod 24 delegates from the UCC's Massachusetts Conference, who said challenges posed by the denomination's financial crisis must be shared by all, reached into their own pockets and raised $11,142 for Our Church's Wider Mission (OCWM). They announced their gift during a plenary session in Minneapolis on Tuesday, July 15.

They called on others to share responsibility for building greater support of the UCC's Associations, Conferences and national Covenanted Ministries. The delegation promised to return to Massachusetts with a renewed resolve to increase congregational giving to OCWM.

The Rev. Heather Kinnear, pastor of Christ Congregational UCC in Brockton, Mass., read from a statement adopted by the delegation, "The Massachusetts delegation has taken to heart the financial crisis in the UCC, and we take responsibility for the health of our denomination. ... We urge all of you, our sisters and broth- ers of the UCC, to share in our commitment and hopeful action in support of our beloved church. May the radically generous spirit of Christ Jesus continue to inspire and move us in the UCC to ever greater levels of joyful giving and sacrifice.Ó
