Human Sexuality and Children

Sexuality is one of God’s gifts to humankind.  Age-appropriate, medically-accurate, faith based sexuality education is a ministry of the United Church of Christ.  When education about human sexuality is provided by loving, well-trained teachers, our children and youth (and their families) are given the information upon which to make life-affirming and life-saving choices.

For over 35 years, churches in the United Church of Christ have been encouraged to provide human sexuality education.  Many resources have been developed over the years, and the response has been gratifying.

Advocates for Youth is dedicated to creating programs and advocating for policies that help young people make informed and responsible decisions about their reproductive and sexual health.

The Guttmacher Institute advances sexual and reproductive health through an interrelated program of social science research, policy analysis and public education designed to generate new ideas, encourage enlightened public debate, promote sound policy and program development and, ultimately, inform individual decision making.

The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice  brings the moral power of religious communities to ensure reproductive choice through education and advocacy. The Coalition seeks to give clear voice to the reproductive issues of people of color, those living in poverty, and other underserved populations.

What we say and how we say it—and what we don’t say—all send messages about sexuality. Families Are Talking advocates honest, open communication between parents and children —throughout childhood, the pre-teen years, adolescence, and young adulthood—will help lay the foundation as they mature into sexually healthy adults.

Our partner in the publication of Our Whole Lives, the Unitarian Universalist Association , is a ally when it comes to issues related to sexual justice and education.

The UCC Coalition for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Concerns provides education on issues related to sexual justice and inclusion, becoming Open and Affirming, and is a helpful link to information related to youth and young adults.
