The UCC Coffee Project has grown in the nine years since the partnership began in 2004. During this time Equal Exchange has returned $81,638 to the UCC Justice & Witness Ministries Small Farmers' Fund, which supports the Franklinton Center Just Food Project, a program in sustainable and nutritious agriculture in rural Whitakers, North Carolina. Just Food is working with small farmers to develop ways to use land at Franklinton Center to grow fruits and vegetables to address food insecurity in the area and to educate and demonstrate about health issues that plague the people of the rural communities in the area.
