Who? Pastor Bill Rishel, First Congregational UCC, Plymouth, WI
What? Drink coasters
When? As often as they can restock them!
Where? At various bars, coffee houses around town
Why? To show the open arms of the church, the nonjudgmental attitude, and a sense of humor
How? Easy! Everyone likes getting free coasters!
More… The church ordered a couple thousand two-sided coasters – comma branding on one side and church contact information and worship times on the other side – and asked some local bars / coffee houses if they wanted them, which of course they did. Many visitors to church say that they saw the coasters at a bar and felt like it was an affirmation of the church’s welcoming stance. All in good taste, the coasters are attractive, functional and very well received. In fact, other local churches are reported to be copying the idea!
