If you are planning to join the United Church of Christ in sunny Southern California next week, and have yet to register, the clock is ticking. Registration for General Synod 2013, which runs from June 28 through July 2 in Long Beach, will close at midnight on Wednesday, June 19.
"We are in the home stretch and counting down the days. Much has gone into planning the specific activities that make up this gathering, we’re very eager to see it all unfold when we come together in Long Beach," said W. Mark Clark, Associate General Minister for the UCC and the General Synod administrator. "I think visitors and delegates will be pleased with everything that will take place - from celebration to business to worship."
"The details are coming together. Videos for the plenaries are done, the program book is printed and it looks great, hotels are filling up, and the exhibit hall is full," Clark added. "We will be welcoming hundreds of people who bought tickets to Testimony! for the new and renewing churches fundraising luncheon on Saturday (June 29)."
Shuttles from the Synod hotels to the convention center start early each morning — 8 a.m. on Friday June 28, and Sunday, June 30, and 6:30 a.m. on the other three days — and run back to the hotels from the convention center until midnight.
There will be opportunities for food service at the Long Beach Convention Center, and there are plenty of restaurants in the surrounding area. However, outside food and beverages (including water bottles) are prohibited in the convention center.
Mobility assistance and child care are also available during the gathering. Electric scooters will be available for the duration of General Synod to delegates, guests and others attending. For more information contact Lee Foley (216-736-2192 or firstname.lastname@example.org) or download the rental form. Child care is available at a low cost during all scheduled business sessions and worship services. Care sessions begin with the first business session Friday afternoon and continue through worship Tuesday evening, and offer games, crafts, music, stories and snacks
The General Synod Program Book is available in digital form online and contains the complete five-day agenda, maps, convention center information, and details of the exhibit hall and resolutions.
Those attending General Synod should visit the registration area in the lobby of the convention center to pick up their credentials, which will be available beginning 5 p.m. Thursday, June 27. To register for General Synod 2013, visit the General Synod website before midnight (Eastern Time) Wednesday. Registration will be available on site in Long Beach.
