Laurent Fabius, France's foreign minister, appealed to the "Friends of Syria," a group of more than 50 countries including the United States, to honor their pledges of financial support for the National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces.
"Chaos is not tomorrow, it is today, and we need to end it. We need to end it in a peaceful way, and that means increased and concrete support to the Syrian National Coalition,"said Laurent Fabius, France's foreign minister, in an appeal to the "Friends of Syria," a group of more than 50 countries including the United States, to honor their pledges of financial support for the official Syrian opposition, the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces.
God, I need you to listen as I try to understand. Today I am praying for the people of Syria and for world leaders everywhere. When I read this story I was overwhelmed by a sense people's fear. Feeling threatened by chaos, chemical weapons, and massive loss of life is terrifying. I understand where that fear comes from.
But then I think about how unhealthy fear negatively impacts my own decisions and I think about all of the disastrous consequences (both intended and unintended) that came from human attempts to fend off chaos in the past and I worry. What are we doing? What should we do?
God, I implore you, open hearts and minds. Where fear is unhealthy, replace it with courage, wisdom, compassion, and hope. Inspire and guide everyone who is in a position to act. Make your divine love lead. Join my prayer for Syria with others coming from traditions and locations all over the world. You are the God of a love that conquers all boundaries. You are the God of new possibilities and new life. Be with the people of Syria. Amen.
