"For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven . . ." - Ecclesiastes 3:1
This is my last regular contribution to the Stillspeaking Daily Devotional. So I want to take the opportunity to express my gratitude for being a part of this venture.
The online Daily Devotional began in Lent 2008. At that time, we imagined it would just be for the Lenten season. But the response made it a continuing, daily offering -- one that has provided a shared experience and point of conversation across the United Church of Christ, which is a good thing. That many others beyond the UCC have found the Daily Devotional is an added blessing.
In creating this Daily Devotional we never did any market analysis. Nor did we have a strategic plan or set of measurable objectives. Truth to tell, it was never really a "strategies" and "tactics" kind of thing. It's been more, to quote the Book of Acts, a "signs" and "wonders" venture. We followed the signs, and wonders have been manifest. There may be something in that to ponder.
So I've had the privilege of contributing to the Daily Devotional for six years now. For a longer time -- since 2006 -- I've joined others in writing various things from Bible studies to pamphlets on faith themes, under the umbrella of "Stillspeaking." One of my favorites from the early years was "16 Reasons I Love My Church."
But it's true, "for everything there is a season," and my season for this work is concluding. Other voices are calling to me now. Meanwhile, I'm thrilled to see all the new and gifted writers who are contributing to this ministry.
Thank-you, United Church of Christ and denominational leaders for supporting this. Thank-you to my dear colleagues in this endeavor. And, most of all, thank-you readers. Many of you have shared thoughtful notes and encouragement with me over the years, which I've appreciated. Grace and peace to you all in the seasons and changes of life lived before and unto God.
Grant us grace, Holy One, to know what season it is. Amen.
