10 Life Lessons Learned from Housework

Written by Christina Villa

Most people think the only housework-related blessing is getting someone else to do it.  Here are some ways to get a little more out of the job.

1
It doesn't have to be perfect.

In life, "better than it was before" is an achievement.

2
Sometimes it takes work to see things as they are.

Wash a window or clean a mirror. Think about some situation you know you could be seeing more clearly if you tried.

3
Vacuum to music.

Pick something uptempo.  Not Gregorian chants.

4
Thank God for your appliances.

Every time you press the "Start" button on the dishwasher, say "Thank you, Jesus."   Ditto the washer and dryer.

5
Let God help.

If you wash dishes by hand, let God dry them. Leave them in the drainer and thank God for the air.

6
Life=Mess.

Where there is dirt on the floor and Cap'n Crunch under the couch, there are the people you love coming and going.

7
Create order out of chaos.

When things feel out of control, fold laundry.  Don't rush.

8
Don't be a martyr.

Think you're the only one who cleans up around here?  Ask for help politely and let other people do it their way.

9
Clear off one small surface.

When you're overwhelmed and don't know where to start, jump in anywhere.

10
Do a little every day.

Housework is like prayer.  You can do it only in a crisis, but if you do a little every day, life is easier.
