Sharks Absent, Swimmer, 64, Strokes From Cuba to Florida
September 4, 2013

After 5 attempts over the past 35 years, Diana Nyad, at age 64, swam the 110-mile passage from Cuba to Florida through shark and jellyfish infested waters and became the first person to do so unaided by the protection of a shark cage. As she came ashore on Monday, she said from the beach: "I have three messages. One is we should never, ever give up. Two is you never are too old to chase your dreams. Three is it looks like a solitary sport, but it takes a team."

God bless Diana Nyad and anyone else who keeps trying for their dreams, no matter what their age. And help us all take Diana's words to heart: never give up, you're never too old, and life is a lot like swimming: it may look like a solitary sport, but reaching your dreams takes a team. Amen.
