Recap
The recent death of Chris Kelly, one half of 90s rap phenom Kris Kross, leads the author to wax nostalgic by reminding us that "regardless of the circumstances surrounding his untimely death or how unsettling it is to have a career peak at 13, we should all just be grateful and remember how wonderful and innocent we all were when backwards clothes were sufficiently subversive to take the world by storm."

Prayer
In a week full of courageous acts of self-love and self-respect; in the midst of this tragic death, ironically, we're thankful that the legacy of Chris Kelly and his rhyming buddy Chris Smith is penultimately one of freedom. Kris Kross took the music industry by storm and captivated youth the world over by daring to be different and not apologizing for it.

May we too summon the nerve to kris kross our daily habits and patterns and to do so with spirits free from anxiety but bustling with possibility. When we're scared to rock the boat or allow our true essence to come forth, remind us that you're a God who is with us and reassuringly says "it is what it is, home skillet…you can do it!"

Free from the pressures to conform we're then set loose to live more abundantly. As we remember this playful, trail-blazing duo who wore their clothes backwards may we move away from our hackneyed and "wiggity, wiggity, wiggity, wiggity wack," and all too familiar terrain. Instead, let's be inspired by Coco Chanel, the iconic designer with a theologian's sensibility, who said "in order to be irreplaceable one must be unique." From the bravery of Jason Collins (and others before him) along with Kris Kross, just be and do you! Amen.
