Ponder: For the second year in a row, two blueberry bushes sit straggly, pushing out miniscule leaves and one handful of blossoms only. In Jesus’ story, it is a fig tree that fails to produce. Don’t yank it out just yet, protests the Gardner. Let me shovel a little more manure around the roots. Let me tend to what it needs most.
Pray: Turn it over, Gardner God. Turn life’s waste, rot, and scraps over. Work it in with the light and heat and oxygen of your Love, ‘till we can taste this luscious fruit. Amen.
