"The World Needs Your Cargo"
May 4, 2013

Excerpt from Psalm 133

"How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!  It is like the precious oil on the head, running down upon the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down over the collar."

Reflection by Donna Schaper

Joy is often related to abundance - but not to excess.

When we shift from a sense of excess into a sense of abundance, we both empty and fill.  The anxiety flows out, the joy flows in.  The weight of burdens turns to what Jesus promised, which is easy yoke, light burden.  Kindred live in unity - and we are astonished into joy that such a thing could be.

Poet Greg Kumera puts the change this way: "The world needs your cargo almost as much as you need to lose it."  The route to the joy of unity is here.  Dump the cargo of past injury.  It is spoiling you.  It is spoilage.   Precious oil comes from the joy of that unity we experience as we spill our joy out into the world.  Our spills help others to spill.

Prayer

O God, you are the source of us as kindred.  Let us know joy in spilling and let us know the abundance that is deep down in all of us in our enormous desire to be as One. Amen.
