Eden Again

March 31, 2011

Excerpt from Ephesians 4:25-32

"So then, putting away falsehood, let all of us speak the truth to our neighbors, for we are members of one another. Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger."

Reflection by Felix Carrion

In his book, Digging In: Tending to Life in Your Own Backyard,  Robert Benson writes, "I like to be there then—sitting, listening for the symphony that will come, watching for the light that has been promised, waiting for the show to begin. I am astonished and grateful each time to have been plopped down into this little corner of the Eden given again to us all each day."

"Don't let the sun go down on your anger" because when it rises the next morning it will shine on your anger or falsehood or evil talk or slander or wrath or your lack of tenderheartedness and kindness or your resistance to forgiveness.

It will shine on all the good things, too, especially on grace. But for now…

Sister, brother, take no offense! It's just that light has this effect every morning upon the untended garden (of our hearts).

But, thank God it's a new day, with a new orbit. Now, go tend Eden again. It's waiting to reveal the bright colors and sounds you missed yesterday. The show is waiting to begin. Like light, it's been promised.

Thank God, the orbit of our solar system gets it right every morning.

Prayer

O God, walk with me again in Eden. Amen.
