"And David danced before the Lord with all his might." - 2 Samuel 6:14

Recently I was invited to the gym to try my very first Zumba class. Now, this, for me, is totally out of character. Never would I imagine my uncoordinated self voluntarily dancing and booty shaking in front of other people . . . or at all!

Yet, something told me I should try this. Yes I need to stay active. Yes this might open the door to more healthy activities. Like most of us however, when presented with a chance to do something out of the ordinary routine, my initial reaction is to refuse and just stick to my comfortable, time-tested patterns.

I didn't do that this time. I went. I danced. And not only was I made to dance in a room full of people, but I danced before a giant mirror so that I could have the luxury of staring at my stellar dance moves for the entire hour. God was really getting a kick out of this one I am sure. As the music started pumping, I stared my discomfort in the mirror and let loose before God, myself, and the world. Yes, it felt great!

Sometimes we just have to dance before the Lord with all our might—twisting, turning, lunging, and booty shaking. God puts the mirror before us so that we can be bold, daring to see ourselves when we shed our fears, our shame, and our reservations. When do that, we see ourselves as God truly intended us to be.

Prayer

God, you dare us to be bold, you tell us to fear not, and you smile when we smile. May we dance before you with all our might. Amen.
