As part of a commitment to higher education, and to build on a continuing relationship, United Church of Christ members have a unique opportunity to advance their learning at one of the denomination's religiously-affiliated universities at no cost. Beginning this fall, UCC members who enroll in one of Elmhurst (Ill.) College's master's degree or graduate certificate programs can take their first course for free.

The free voucher course program is a recent example of Elmhurst College's effort to make its partnership with the church more relevant and meaningful.

"The Elmhurst-UCC voucher program is another example of the college's continued commitment to working with the UCC to build a vibrant, vital relationship," said Elmhurst College Chaplain H. Scott Matheney. "It's a clear message from both institutions about the value of higher education for an educated faith in an educated society."

Elmhurst College President S. Alan Ray presented the first graduate course voucher to the Rev. Geoffrey A. Black, general minister and president of the UCC, on May 31, when Black attended Elmhurst's commencement to receive an honorary doctorate of divinity degree.

The free graduate course voucher, offered through the Elmhurst College-United Church of Christ Partner Program, will be available in the fall semester to members of any of the more than 100 Elmhurst College-UCC partner churches.

The voucher program is available to students who have been admitted to an Elmhurst College master's degree or graduate certificate program. Vouchers are offered on a space-available basis.

Elmhurst College is one of 19 institutions that make up the UCC Council for Higher Education. The university is a leading liberal arts college located near Chicago, with approximately 3,200 full- and part-time students. Elmhurst's mission is to prepare its students for meaningful and ethical work in a multicultural, global society.
