Edith A. Guffey
Edith Guffey, UCC Associate General Minister and one of the UCC's five-member Collegium of Officers, has been renominated by a search committee for a second, four-year term. Now her name will be submitted to the UCC's Executive Council for confirmation as the nominee to be presented to General Synod 24 for call by election. The Executive Council will meet in Cleveland from March 14-16, the General Synod in Minneapolis from July 11-15.
"We received only one application for this position and somehow that could be a testament of Edith's performance as the incumbent," wrote Annie W. Neal to the Executive Council. Neal, of Nashville, Tenn., chaired the search committee.
The search committee for the Executive Minister for Wider Church Ministries, on the other hand, was unable to recommend any of the candidates it interviewed for the position and has extended its search process. The incumbent, Dale L. Bishop, announced last year that he would not be a candidate for re-election.
"We plan to receive applications, do interviews and name a candidate by General Synod," says the Rev. Marvin Morgan of the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, who chairs the search committee.
Position applications and supplemental materials are available by writing to the Rev. Erv Bode, United Church of Christ Search, P.O. Box 1177, Newburyport, MA 01950; e-mail email@example.com.
The new deadline for receiving complete position applications is Wednesday, April 30, at the same address.
