UCC Disaster Ministries’ CWS Kits Matching Grants are back!
For the second year in a row, the United Church of Christ is offering $250 matching grants to its congregations to assemble Church World Service Kits. Kits can be crucial to the recovery process following an international or domestic disaster.

Last year, matching grants were for CWS School Kits only. A total of 81 UCC congregations made use of the 2014 matching grants to stretch their dollars, assembling 5,097 CWS School Kits.
This year, grants may be used for all CWS Kits, including CWS School, Baby and Hygiene Kits and Emergency Cleanup Buckets. Kits must be assembled and processed according to CWS instructions found at http://www.cwsglobal.org/get-involved/kits/. UCC Disaster Ministries will award up to 200 grants on a first come, first served basis to qualifying applicants.
Grant Applications will be received between Sept. 1 and Dec. 31, 2015.
Several of last year’s participants already have contacted UCC Disaster Ministries to ask about the availability of UCC Kits Matching Grants this year.

Alyce Downer of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Owosso, Mich., wrote, “Just wondering if the grant for assembling school kits is going to be available this year. We at St. John’s UCC want to get started on our kits early this year. We want to start making the bags now so that when school supplies go on sale in late July or August we can get them at a very cheap price – get more supplies for our money.”
The Rev. Pamela Koebel, co-pastor with her husband Keith of White Lake Congregational United Church of Christ in Whitehall, Mich., wrote, “Will you be offering grant money for school bags this year? We did it last year and really had fun making the money go as far as possible. We planned to make 50 kits but were able to make 100 instead. This year the congregation is designing its Vacation Bible School around the theme God’s Helping Hands. One of the activities will include assembling CWS Kits.” [Editor's note: The VBS, held in July, put together 146 CWS School, Hygiene and Cleanup Kits, among other projects.
