UCC Disaster Ministries mourns the loss of Joann Hale
August 19, 2014
Church World Service Emergency Response Specialist Joann Hale passed away Sunday night, August 17, of a fatal heart attack.
A survivor of the toxic Love Canal disaster Joann served as a volunteer and staff member of CWS for 27 years advocating for and training communities in all aspects of disaster preparedness, response and recovery. A UCC member Joann also worked as a UCC tech disaster coordinator and was a strong supporter of the VOAD (voluntary organizations active in disaster) movement. Her work spanned countless disasters as she supported and resourced communities to organize long-term recovery.
Zach Wolgemuth, Executive for UCC Disaster Ministries, said: “Joann will surely be missed by all who knew her but her legacy will live on… she touched countless lives both directly and indirectly. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all her family and loved ones.”
Joann was 60 years old and is survived by her husband Gary and two daughters.
