Over 3 million people have been reportedly displaced by the conflict in Pakistan, and that number continues to grow. Most severely impacted are the children. The United Church of Christ has responded with an initial grant of $10,000.
The United Church of Christ is working with local partners through Church World Service and Action by Churches Together (ACT) International to provide relief for displaced persons. An initial gift of $10,000 has been sent to provide food relief, shelter kits, cooking utensils, blankets, water, hygiene and healthcare. The number of newly displaced refugees continues to climb and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has declared this the biggest exodus in the world during the past 15 years.
The major concern is the medical assistance needed by fleeing internally displaced persons (IDPs) living with host families or in the IDP camps. The region is experiencing harsh weather conditions, with temperatures rising up to 49 degrees Celsius (120° F).
Media Reports confirm that half the displaced population in the camps are children under fifteen and a large number of them are suffering from dehydration and stress associated with trauma.
Members of ACT International report increasing needs among vulnerable populations which include shelter, food, medicine, safe drinking water, clothing, healthcare, sanitation and hygiene.
This emergency appeal is to provide immediate and long-term relief. Your support will help support 2,000 women with children families and 2,000 IDP families.
