Earthquake Rocks Peru

A massive earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter Scale struck Peru yesterday. Thus far, 337 people are reported killed and hundreds more injured. United Church of Christ/ One Great Hour of Sharing prepares to respond.

The cities of Ica, Chincha and Pisco have been especially hard hit. Peruvian members of Action by Churches Together (ACT) International, to which the UCC also belongs, are meeting today and will provide more information to the ACT network on the extent of the destruction as well as plans for a coordinated response.  One Great Hour of Sharing will be supporting their work.

How You Can Help:

  1. Pray for the people of Peru affected by this earthquake.
  2. Make gifts payable to your UCC Congregation, marked for "International Disaster Fund" in the memo portion, and send to your Conference Office with a note asking that the gift be forwarded to Wider Church Ministries; 700 Prospect Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44115.
