"Men Make A Difference" is the theme for World AIDS Day 2001, set for Saturday, Dec. 1.
"I care. Do you?" is the slogan for the second year of a two-year campaign intended to create a sustained focus on the role of men in the AIDS epidemic.
"Advances in treatment have made HIV manageable in some Western cultures. But for much of the world, and among people in the United States unable to attain treatment, AIDS is a living nightmare," says the Rev. William R. Johnson, minister for HIV/AIDS concerns with Wider Church Ministries.
The new Campaign aims to involve men, particularly young men, more fully in the effort against AIDS; to bring about a much-needed focus on men in national responses to the epidemic and to involve leaders both as politicians and in their personal lives in the response to the HIV epidemic.
