Unveiling of Antoinette Brown Blackwell marker
The First Church in Oberlin UCC, in partnership with the United Church of Christ, will host an unveiling of an historical marker honoring the Rev. Antoinette Brown Blackwell, the first woman ordained (and by one of our predecessor bodies, the Congregational Church). Antoinette Brown attended Oberlin, and while she did not initially receive a degree from them after completing her coursework, this was eventually rectified. This historical marker will share about her life, ministry, connection to Oberlin and to our denomination, and is paid for in large part through gifts made to the UCC for this purpose.
