Description

The Avery Arthington Fund is intended to help undergraduate college students from the African continent study in the United States. Awards may cover educational expenses such as tuition, books and fees, but may not be used for room, board, or incidentals. Awards may only be made after a student has been admitted to an accredited US college or university. Awards are granted one year at a time. Students may apply for a renewal for a maximum of four years. Renewals are not automatic.

Requirements

Undergraduate college student from the African continent studying in the United States.
The student has been admitted to an accredited college or university in the United States.

Preference is given to students who are sophomores, juniors, or seniors and who are attending UCC-related colleges or are members of the United Church of Christ or our partner churches in their respective homeland. Preference is given to students whom the committee feels will make a contribution to their home country upon their return.

References are required from the student’s Dean or academic advisor, and from the school chaplain, campus minister or local church minister. It is important that references speak to the student’s academic abilities and promise, leadership qualities, gifts and talents, character, plus intent to return to his/her country to assume leadership.

Financial aid officers are encouraged to assist students in completing the financial statement.
