During this year's Synod, the Collegium of Officers of the United Church of Christ published a Pastoral Letter on the War in Iraq, calling for the end of death and violence and the beginning of lasting peace through diplomacy in the Middle East.

Through the unified leadership of its National Officers, Conference Ministers and Seminary Presidents, the United Church of Christ is seeking to build an unprecedented faith-based movement "to join protest to prayer" in ending the war in Iraq.

 
Home: Justice: $100,000 for Peace

During this season of peacemaking, the UCC is asking for a massive wave of 100,000 in-district visits, letters and calls to the local offices of our Senators and Representatives. Buchannan's district office representative. He listened attentively after we presented the Pastoral Letter and each person took turns expressing why the Iraq war has had tragic consequences for the Iraqi people, for the USA itself, and reasons why U.S. troops should be brought home as soon as possible.

11/30/2007 Jack Seville This morning, at our regularly scheduled Friday morning Bible Study at the Bismarck UCC, Northern Plains Conference, I shared with all the wonderful outreach letter from islamic Religious leaders to Christian leaders around the world as well as the response that has already come from ecumenical thinkers at Yale. Great interest here in these developments. I also plan to visit with the Religious Editor of the Bismarck Tribune and bring up this vital step toward peace that Islamic Religious leaders have invited us all to take. What better time than now, as we await the celebration of the coming of the Prince of Peace, for all of us to seek that common ground and to hold onto it in faith.

I believe it was Albert Einstein who said he was "a militant pacifist." May there be many more in our time.

Steve Halsted, Roger Manus, Sam Johnson, Bill Lamb (the last two are tentative at this point)		 Congressman Brad Miller Congressman Miller represent the 13th Congressional District of North Carolina.  Rev. Halsted read the letter as his sermon several weeks ago and we then provided an opportunity for folks to sign the petition on line.  We are also very concerned about torture and plan to bring this up with the Congressman.
