Take Action

During this year's Synod, the Collegium of Officers of the United Church of Christ published a Pastoral Letter on the War in Iraq, calling for the end of death and violence and the beginning of lasting peace through diplomacy in the Middle East.

Through the unified leadership of its National Officers, Conference Ministers and Seminary Presidents, the United Church of Christ is seeking to build an unprecedented faith-based movement "to join protest to prayer" in ending the war in Iraq.

Home: Justice: 100,000 for Peace

On March 19, 2008, the world will pause to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the war in Iraq. On this day — the Wednesday of Holy Week — our members, supporters and congregations will remember the day with meditation and action. Together, we will move from lamentation to action to hope.

Find out how you can be a part of the 100,000 Lights for Peace.

We've raised more than our goal of "$100,000 for Peace" to provide much-needed food, water, health care and education for war-affected Iraqi families displaced in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. Thank you to everyone who gave so generously. There's still room to help, with more than 4 million people - 15 percent of Iraq's population - forced from their homes because of war and bloodshed.

A gift of $40 can feed a family of four for two weeks. $85 can provide warm coats and hats for 5 children. $100 can provide medicine and testing for the chronically ill.  Click here to make a donation.

During this season of peacemaking, the UCC is asking for a massive wave of 100,000 in-district visits, letters and calls to the local offices of our Senators and Representatives. See if a UCC member has scheduled an in-district meeting near you.

The “100,000 for Peace” campaign is committed to lifting 100,000 prayers for military personnel serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere this Christmas. In the coming days and weeks, we’ll be providing numerous resources and outlets for you to express your concern for our troops and for their safe return. Click here to add your personal prayers for those you know and love.

This October, the UCC traveled to Washington, DC to call on the US government to end the war in Iraq. We delivered the names of almost 64,000 people for peace, those who stand in solidarity with the UCC's Pastoral Letter on the Iraq War. You can read about our trip here.

We are still collecting signatures, so please take a moment to add your name to the petition.
